Ken Arnott has unexpectedly announced that he and 'The Mob' will be bringing hometown favourite 'Insanity' out of retirement to race in the SHOWDOWN, proclaiming the team will have "one more go" at a major event.
During the inaugural SHOWDOWN over a decade ago, the then 'Insane 3' boat sat quietly in Frank Lenzi's shed while McCosker made claim to his trophy at the North Arm. This time round it seems, the big block Chev / Bert Everingham combination will be brought to life in all of it's former glory.
And what a welcome addition it will be. A blown boat of old brings so much history with it and adds further testament to what is an age old legacy - blown alcohol displacement racing.
It will be a stark contrast seeing a strong field of modern day B.A.D boats including current Australian and Australasian Title holders surround 'Insanity', considering the boat competed at these same events more than 20 years ago.
"Yeah, we're havin' another go mate" Ken says.
"I didn't wanna run her (Insanity) 'cos she hurts each time you bring her out."
"But you've gotta back your club and that's what we're doing. Events like this don't come around too often."
"The boys are all heading back from the bush and they'll be here about 5:00 to give me a hand. They're all pretty excited at the moment."
"We won't be as quick as what we were at the Dorwin and we won't be able to mix it with the top guys, but we'll make some noise and have a good time either way."
Could this be a sign of more unexpected entries to the SHOWDOWN? We'll have to wait and see.
