BUNDY THUNDER 2009

17th November 2009. By John Warren.

BUNDABERG, QUEENSLAND

Well, we’re back and another Bundy thunder is over. With the competition in 6 litre Carby and injected classes, getting more and more competitive. In 6 litre carby, possible four of the best carby boats in Australia with Hi-flyer, Sacrifice, Home grown & Alcatraz, with their high powered performance motors, lined up with another 8 boats competing in the weekends racing. Anybody that has raced would understand how daunting it was to line up against the big 4, thinking that you’re doing well, until you come out to play with these guys.

At the Balls’n’All tent we thought that if we could finish 5th 6th or 7th, that we’d have had a good weekend but fate was going to change that, with Terry Smith being rear ended in a totally unexplainable incident. I think the only thing that Terry hadn’t done was install flashing lights.  The racing up until then had been close and exciting, and the next race saw ‘Home Grown’ throw a blade and Wayne Sonter had more than his hands full trying to hold onto the boat.

In the final race for 6 Litre, ‘Hi-flyer’ and “Balls’n’All” raced for the lead with Greg Lewis keeping it close enough for the crowds enjoyment and we were able to pick up second place.

As the weekend finished the boat had ran flawlessly and we brought it home in one piece.  We finished the weekend with

  • 1 -  2nd Place
  • 3 -  3rd Place
  • 1 – 4th Place

and placed 5th in a heat of the ‘Iron Nuts Shield.  We were pretty stoked with our results as we packed up from the weekend and got ready to go to the
‘Presentation Night’.

It’s amazing how boats and drivers get faster and how much better they drive once at Presentations.  We received a Bonus surprise when it was announced that we had picked up third (3rd) Place overall for 6 Litre Carby. To say we as a team were stoked is an understatement.  Special thanks to my crew, Theo and Josh Vogel who travelled with us from Victor Harbor.

To Dave Clarke and the ‘Tuff e Nuff’ team who picked up the Unlimited Class trophy, Congratulations, as well as to all the teams that competed from South Australia, you have done yourselves, your state and clubs proud. These teams are –

  • Bondage    -  Brian Jeffries
  • Tuff e Nuff   -  Dave Clarke
  • Balls’n’All   -  John Warren

and the most unlucky driver and Team, Terry Smith in Alcatraz.

To Terry and his team, I hope you are able to repair and get back racing as soon as you can and that it has not been a too expensive weekend. Hope to see everybody at the next Club Day at Berri on the 6th December, 2009.
