Once again it was the 1.6lt Oz Lites beginning the days proceedings with the hum of their 4 cylinder engines. Lil' Terrer and Tigercub again rounded up the back of the field behind Times R Tuff and RKM.

Despite a lack of South Australian entries it must be said that the outboard classes put on some very entertaining displays of quality racing throughout the day. The Len Sheltrum Marine Trophy was deservedly won by Rhys Coles in Byron Bay Premium Ale and was certainly looking good for a shot at the Riverside. However a turn of events would see him watching on from the river bank.

In the absence of Rhys Coles due to engine gremlins and Craig Bailey busy in the pits, all remaining boats were assembled into one spectacular field, obviously the drivers had less concerns for the challenges this course presented.
After Don McClymont noting that his formula 1 wasn't running at its potential he unfortunately rolled at the town end corner, landing upside down. Don exited from beneath the boat and was un harmed.

SA teams performing well in the class racing included 5.2ltr carby entry Jimbo which was consistently fast in several races all day. Of the 6 litre racing it was Brian Jeffrey in Bondage and John Warren in Balls 'N' All at the pointy end of the field ahead of Craig Lewis in Image.

After a poor start in one of the races Craig Lewis was pushing a little too hard into the corners resulting in a potentially nasty collision between Bite Me and Image at the bridge end turn. Brian Jeffrey and John Warren were unaware of the carnage behind them and continued their push for first and second respectfully, setting the precedent for the remaining 6 litre races. Well done to BJ and John, great to see you getting some good results and taking your boat home in one piece. Fortunately the damage on board Tom Barnhards cell boat can be repaired and both drivers involved in the incident were OK.
