By Chris Stone Do we need another class in
circuit boat racing … NO?
Do we need a better more
entertaining circuit boat class …
Well that is the question I am
putting up for discussion?
Ask anyone who follows the sport of power boat circuit racing in Australia what they
like and what excites them when they attend a circuit boat event.
They will more than
likely say blown boats and close racing. Today, all classes are going faster.Who would
have thought 10 years ago Restricted boats doing more than 100mph and 6-litre
Carby boats doing 115mph plus and BAD Unlimited boats exceeding the 155mph
amd more.
What race stands out in your mind? Would it be a race won by the length of the
straight or a close finish between three or four boats crossing the finish line two or
three boat lengths apart?
It is unfortunate that a lot of racers (drivers) feel that to win
by the length of the straight or were you can get-off the power a lap before the finish
is the ideal result, but for the crowd, the paying customer, it is quite the opposite.
The idea is to form a Blown Lites ‘Gang’ which is a group of dedicated drivers
and boat owners that would form a new class and put on a show.
- They would have similar engine specifications.
- They would have similar speeds
- They would have excellent reliability.
- They would have an extended promotional and media advantage.
- They would look the part and sound the part …
