SHOWDOWN PRACTICE PACKED SOME PUNCH
15th August 2009

It's Showdown weekend and the ASBC is playing host to arguably the best field of blown alcohol displacement boats ever seen in Adelaide.
The action today was non stop and despite strong northerly winds all boats completed test runs. There has been good support as always from local class competitors but today all eyes were on the B.A.D Boats.

First off the bat was none other than Tony Scarlata representing the USA, and despite rumours of head gasket troubles the boat K-88 looked quicker than ever and sounded strong. A truly admirable site- you could almost feel that the K-Boat was being driven by an American. Well done to Jamie Magor and his support crew, keep up the good work.

The BAD boats kept coming one after the other. To pick a winner from the field is near impossible as all boats looked in excess of 130MPH. Obviously John Cross in Rival looked the quickest & meanest, but a stand out competitor would have to be Dean Gleeson in Kryptonite, sporting a new "Big and Ugly" drag racing injector hat. The team looks in good form and were certainly one of the quicker boats.
Reported problems were mainly minor including a fuel problem on board Totally X Static, a loose bolt somewhere on Unleashed, a rudder issue on Kryptonite- all being fixed now. Some concerns however for Brian McCosker who had both heads off of his engine after his test run.
