Opening day less than 3 weeks away

16th August 2010

The new racing season is looming very near and nationwide there are people on the edge of their seat waiting for the return of powerboat racing.

Our newly crowned champion Linton Price is eager to start his second racing season and he has got some competition chasing him in the 25/550 class. Will we see another 550cc tunnel hull challenge Showbags? Until then it's up to the mono guys who will all be out in force at the North Arm.

New found rivalry in the nipper classes will be re-ignited and there will be no love lost between the likes of future champions James Clark, Connor Amato & Nicholas Borg. The youngsters have an opportunity later in the year to be on the world stage and will need to sharpen their driving skills.

In the lead up to the much anticipated Windsor Riverview/Coles Spectacular in Windsor NSW, the Adelaide Speedboat Club has six race teams gearing up for the journey east and they will all want to use opening day as an opportunity to get some seat time before mixing it with Australia's best.

In Excess is back in action and the Stunell boys are desperate to regain the speed & reliability shown in 2008. Driver Jeff Stunell will certainly be in the thick of it at Windsor with the biggest field of 6 litre boats entered in long time which includes our 6 litre carby advocate Terry Smith in Alcatraz.

David Satterly is still in the mix for the Blown Lite Drivers Championship and these boats are getting faster and faster with each outing. Dave will need his tune spot on if he's going to maintain his spot on the table.

Three of our B.A.D boys will be hauling interstate to contest the Kevin 'Puff' Chesser Trophy among other major events and this of course includes our big guns Trevor Stanley and David Clark. Both the Agent Orange and Tuff'E'Nuff teams have been modifying their Evercraft boats during the off season and will most certainly use opening day as an opportunity to get some race time in the seat.

Joining Adelaide's entourage of race teams heading East will be John & Neil Laundy with the newly completed Fixation 21ft boat. It will be Neil's first time competing nationally in over 12 years and he will need all the seat time he can get come September 5th.

Adding some extra buzz to the racing (and also heading to Windsor) will be Mike Smith busying himself filming for his new TV series 'Liquid Horsepower'. Mike has indicated that he will be installing on board video cameras with Chris Wellington in JAC Racing and quite possibly some other boats as well. If Chris is mixing it with Tom Barnhard in Bite Me Too and Steve Moritz in Red Raw, plus 'Jimbo' then it should make for some good footage!

NASCAR has even made it into our 5 litre class with Jamie Royles sporting a Dodge Mopar engine in his recently acquired Everingham 'Adrenalyn Rush' pictured above (All The Torque Photography).

What about our hydro's some may be asking? You'll have to hit our forum 'Prop Talk' and see if you can extract some information out of the boat owners!

Will Bruce Jordan throw the new look Real Thing into the mix? He will certainly be looking for some more seat time before his first shot at a World Title in October. (Picture courtesy www.realthingracing.com)

As you can see there will be plenty of FAST boats back on the water racing for the first time in many months. Let's set the tone for the whole season on opening day- positive, action packed, fun, and safe!

Here's a possible scenario for the weekend- pole positions for last race of the day:

  1. Agent Orange
  2. Totally X-Static
  3. Tuff'E'Nuff
  4. The Real Thing
  5. In Excess
  6. Fixation
  7. Alcatraz

Let's see who's ready to race!
