Third time lucky- race meeting runs as planned

17th May 2010

In perfect conditions at the North Arm yesterday the ASBC hosted its first race meeting since February. A good mixture of boats were a welcome sight on the Port River.

Highlights from the day include plenty of side by side racing between good friends Tom Barnhard and Chris Wellington. Barnhard finally got to race his new outfit 'Bite Me Too' and he was looking comfortable back in an open deck hull. Wellington ran consistently all day and is looking good for his planned attack on three classes at the Australian Championships in a fortnights time.

Outboards are back at the North Arm thanks to Ryan Stunell who together with his 25hp was racing a larger Formula 2 outfit called 'Smokin'. Stunell did everything right on his first race day in the boat which looked tidy all day. An electrical glitch ended his final race prematurely, let's hope he can get it sorted before Mildura.

Dave 'The Sledge' Satterly looked in great form on board 'Titan' and the Blown Lite contender is looking good to consolidate his position in the championship standings. Satterly was also kind enough to splash those in duty boats to give them a bit of a cool-down. Thanks Dave.

In the absence of the unlimited class (Adelaide's largest) all competing teams other than Supersport and Formula Future were assembled into one race. The 6 boats consisted of 2 x 5 litre boats, 1 six litre, an F2 outboard, a blown lite, and of course the "unlimited" 2JZ capsule boat.

Still smiling- Bob Swinburne had a great 1st race but again suffered an EMS glitch after taking on some spray during a corner. Keep at it Bob!

There were plenty of thrills and spills in the Supersport category with a number of spin outs from Ryan Stunell and Aaron Dennis. A collision in a turn between two boats left Adam Stunell's boat with a hole in the deck. No one was injured.

The nippers seem to be getting more and more competitive with each race and in particular the J1 class battled it out with James Clark winning the first race and Nick Borg taking the second. Connor Amato chased closely in 'Sky Rocket'.

Spectators were delighted to witness a couple of practice sessions by BAD boys Trevor Stanley and Dave Clark. Although unable to race due to an APBA suspension the ASBC was happy to allow them a test and tune in controlled conditions, one boat at a time.

Thumbs up- Stanley happy to run in a controlled environment & please the crowd while he's at it.

With 3 rescue teams on the water including the number 1 duty boat in Australia, the Don P. Farrell, the club was able to provide the safest conditions possible for the Blown Alcohol Displacement boats.

Both Tuff'E'Nuff and Agent Orange looked great on the water- fast as always - but safe and tidy. These boats were a most welcome site at a club that has been suffering for the past couple of seasons. The sound of these boats certainly fuel everyone's passion for the sport- thanks to Stanley & Clark for putting on a show, you can really tell these guys are keen to get back to racing.

The Tuff'E'Nuff team give their all to the sport and are immaculately presented.

Thanks to everyone who made the race meeting possible - the committee, all the helpers, race teams & crews, everyone in the tower, plus a special mention to Brett Howard who had a busy day running the one and only tractor in the pits. Without all these contributors the meeting would simply not have happened.
