Les Schrapel Memorial shapes a Six Litre Showdown

21 January 2010

The Berri Resort Hotel Speedboat Spectacular is upon us and among other classes, the field of 6 litre boats promises some entertaining racing. Looking at the program, these guys will be flat out competing not only in their own class but in the inaugural Les Schrapel Memorial for Unlimited Un-blown.

The South Aussie fleet will have their work cut out for them against heavyweights 'Oxygen Thief' (Chris Pugsly) and Mopar powered 'Miscreant' (John Cross)- both relatively new outfits that have jumped right in to the top end of competition. Other interstate competitors include Peter Price all the way from WA with 'All Torque' and yet another team in for the long haul on the road - Craig Lewis in 'Image' all the way from Queensland.

Jeffrey Stunell - In Excess - aS16s

Leading the charge will be our very own heavyweight (no pun intended) Jeff Stunell who is desperate to find his winning form again in 'In Excess'. Keep your fingers crossed for these guys who have had a recurring problem in the bottom end of the 366ci Chevrolet and as a result have spent a lot of time on the sidelines lately. We must not forget that little more than 12 months ago Stunell was un-touchable.

Terry Smith will be disappointed to be missing out this weekend- his Everingham 'Alcatraz' still undergoing repairs from his incident at Bundy Thunder.

Brian Jeffrey - Bondage - as13s

Berri's very own 6 litre race team 'Bondage' will again be pedaled by Brian Jeffrey and these guys head into the major racing on the back of some excellent form. Who can forget their busy day at the races late last year where the boat won all 6 litre races and tangled with the blown boats as well. One can assume that any race that's available to these guys will be hotly contended for in front of their home crowd.

John Warren - Balls'n'All - as17s

John Warren has been gradually stepping up the speed of his 17 foot Everingham 'Balls'N'All' and quite simply loves a good race against now long time rival Tom Barnhard in 'Bite Me'. Warren is yet another of our competitors who campaigns across the country and won't be afraid of the tough competition from abroad.

Tom Barnhard - Bite Me - s60

Barnhard comes up against Craig Lewis' 'Image' for the first time since their minor bingle at Mildura 2009 and will be looking forward to some close racing once again on the tight river course.

Last but not least is our latest 6 litre competitor to hit the scene, Skeet Lawson. The recently completed Everingham 'Cause 4 Concern' is packing plenty of punch and will suit the short course nicely. Skeet will be pushing his limits and is jumping straight in the deep end of competition at a national level after some years away from driving. Come lap 3 in any of the races and Skeet will no doubt have his hands full but his years of experience should enable him to keep a handle on it.

Best of luck to all drivers home and abroad. The crowds will be eagerly watching this class and we hope that there is plenty of safe and entertaining racing for the two day event.
