Clark awes the crowds while May takes silver in Stannard Cup, Borg in first final appearance

Crowds have been witness to some truly awesome racing at the Berri Resort Hotel Speedboat Spectacular and our local teams have been taking it right up to the best of the nations competition.

Some excellent times in the heats in the lead up to the final race saw Tim May in pole position 1 and Dean Borg in 5 after making his first final at a major race meeting in his B.A.D Proformance.

After taking it to the best in the country, Dave Clark is a little disappointed with himself after he let a golden opportunity slip in his heat against Brian McCosker in 'Liberty'- Clark had Tuff'e'Nuff in a slender lead for the majority of the race only to spin out on the final turn and allow him to slip past and qualify faster. The pole position may have well been his too had he finished the race without mishap. Nonetheless, Clark should be commended for his sensational driving that showed immense speed, determination and plenty of courage against the World Champioin McCosker.

The final race saw the flag dropped a little early before the boats were in a straight line. This handed a slight advantage to the fastest qualifiers as the drivers needed to turn before hitting the front straight. It was neck and neck on lap one between Liberty, The Boss, Rythum and Tuff'E'Nuff while Proformance and The Patriot followed closely behind.

Clark again spun on the same turn as in his heat and had to watch the field pass him by while McCosker seemed back to his best and had an early lead. At the same turn on lap 2 however the 18 foot Childsplay seemed to lose power momentarily allowing Wayne Hodgson in Rythum to take the lead. Tim May in the Boss also saw an opportunity to move into second and took it without hesitation. McCosker managed to get moving again and despite a strong drive he was unable to catch the front runners who pushed hard all the way to the finish.

Dean Borg drove admirably and took 5th position closely behind Tony Marks in The Patriot while Clark rounded out the field in 6th position.
