Celebrity 25hp race at ASBC entertains the crowd

8th March 2011

With numbers down at the latest club day club patrons were enlightened by a celebrity race starring blown alcohol displacement drivers Trevor Stanley and David Clark along with 6 litre pedellers Terry Smith and Jeff Stunell. The guys weren't holding back and there were a number of racing incidents, er, before the race even started.

Terry Smith was given the keys to Shane Rundle's Spitfire, recently driven by his son Mike, and soon after leaving the pit area Terry managed to barrel roll the boat and was ejected. Highly concerned on-lookers were quick to burst out with laughter.

Trevor Stanley was busy getting the most out of Geoff Cutler's usual ride 'Shortcut' and spun on a couple of occasions - once before the race had started, and a second time while leading the race. Unfortunately for Stanley he sustained a heavy bruise on his shoulder when fellow celebrity racer Jeff Stunell drove straight into him in the corner.

Dave Clark displayed his usual smooth driving and managed to pedal the newly branded 'Tuff'e'Nuff' 25hp boat without incident. Jamie Royles was back on the water for the first time in a while and he too managed to handle 25hp a little better than his fellow competitors.

Displacement boats racing for the day included Alcatraz in which Terry Smith dominated early. Making up the rest of the 5 boat field were regular competitors JAC Racing, Bite Me Too, Balls 'n' All and making another appearance was Adrenalyn Rush. Great to see a full field of boats in the one race at the North Arm.

In the absence of blown boats Mike Smith was given a golden opportunity by David Satterley to drive his BAD boat 'Titan'. Mikes very first drive of a supercharged 'log' was a smooth one and his efforts have been commended. Early nerves were quickly overcome by plenty of adrenalyn and I'm sure Mike will be buzzing for many days to come.
