Brett Sheppard, his team and 'Unleashed' recently scored their 2nd Marj Watson trophy at Mildura in May defeating all of the boats that have entered the Showdown in the process. These guys will be coming to Adelaide for one reason....they want to race and beat the best and everyone at the Showdown should know by now that this team has the equipment and a driver capable of winning this one.
If there is one thing these guys will be wary of at the Showdown it will be the turbulent water and big ‘holes’ left behind by the bigger 21 ft boats like Rival, Agent Orange, Tuff E Nuff, Kryptonite and others. The smaller hull of 'Unleashed' (and those like it) can suffer a bit more in the rougher water than their bigger opposition and this will make the hot lap qualifying absolutely critical for this team (and the identical hulled 'Liberty' for that matter).
If they don't qualify in pole 1 (or 2 at worst) they may find themselves not being able to utilise the massive horsepower in their smaller craft. Unleashed certainly has the straight line speed to match anything else in the field, but from poles 3, 4 or 5 - it is perhaps doubtful that they have enough to make up the difference around the outside.
On current form ‘Unleashed’ should rightly start the Showdown as at least equal outright favourite with perhaps Rival with qualifying being vital to their overall chances and finishing position.
Can Brett Sheppard and 'Unleashed' add this trophy to their fast growing collection? Don’t be surprised if they do!
