Cross memorial race an absolute belter, S.A finishes 2 & 3

22nd September 2009

What a race this was- 5 of the best blown alchol race boats were invited to contend this trophy and they were all level pegging down the starting straight. It looks as though some of the other boats are starting to match the speed of the Rival boat down the chute.

Most unfortunate for John Cross however- the Rival boat mysteriously failed on the front straight causing it to come to a hault and Cross had to painfully watch his competitors go past him.

Moments later it fired up again and crowds were witness to what was probably the fastest lap ever completed on the Windsor course. Obviously racing straight from the heart, Rival hit the turns at over 100MPH and awed onlookers despite finishing last.

Apart from Crossy going crazy it was a battle of 3 Evercrafts with Agent Orange picking up yet another second followed by fellow South Aussie Tuff'E'Nuff while veteran Barry Chesser came in fourth. Leading the pack was the only ChildsPlay in the race driven by Wayne Hodgson who again improved out of sight this weekend. A great drive indeed which had owner Rod Cooney quite literally shaking in his boots!

Well done to all competitors who put on a great show. Final placings for this race:

  1. Rythum - Wayne Hodgson
  2. Agent Orange - Trevor Stanley
  3. Tuff'E'Nuff - David Clark
  4. Fury Marine - Barry Chesser
  5. Rival - John Cross

Cross makes it a clean sweep so far, Stanley does S.A proud

20th September 2009 2:38pm AEST

Congratulations drivers. Final placings:

  1. John Cross - Rival
  2. Dean Barry - She's the Culprit
  3. Brett Sheppard - Unleashed
  4. Trevor Stanley - Agent Orange
  5. Wayne Hodgson - Rythum

Stanley in Puff final berth

20th September 2009 2:08pm AEST

Agent Orange has snuck into the Puff Chesser Trophy final. The guys have been doing well considering the straight line instability they've been experiencing. The wing has been removed in an attempt to improve the situation but this only resulted in a decline in cornering speed.

Dave Clark unfortunately misses out and will have to wait for next year.

Final line up as follows:

  1. Rival
  2. Unleashed
  3. Rythum
  4. She's the Culprit
  5. Agent Orange

Team Bondage takes home third in Menace Cup

19th September 2009 1:30pm AEST

Congratulations to Brian Jeffrey and his team who made it across the line in third place in the Menace Cup. A fantastic effort considering the truly stunning lineup of 6 litre boats this weekend. Yet another case of "to finish first, first you must finish".

BJ scores his first win for the weekend, BAD boys look the goods

20th September 2009 11:15am AEST

The first of the 6 litre races was an eventful one with In Excess and Sacrifice nearly colliding on a couple of occasions. Brian Jeffrey in Bondage made the most of his opportunities and a clean consistent drive resulted in his first win for the weekend. In Excess stopped on the last lap after a pume of blue smoke exited the exhaust's.

Of the blown alcohol it was Agent Orange against She's the Culprit and Trevor Stanley managed to out drive his opponent who led for the majority of the race.

Tuff E Nuff came up against favorite Unleashed and Dave Clarke had the pressure on early. A great drive indeed with the blue boat gradually pulling away from the 18 foot ChildsPlay, only to break a blower belt on the final lap.

Another silver for team Orange

19th September 2009 2:08pm AEST

Placing's for Les Spears final: 1- Rival 2- Agent Orange 3- Bad Influence. Both Fury and Outlaw failed to finish.

CONGRATULATIONS TREVOR STANLEY.

Stunell untouchable

19th September 2009 1:50pm AEST

Heat 1 for the Commodore Cup saw In Excess next to the two top 6 litre boats - Sacrifice and Hi Flya. It was neck and neck on the starting straight and Stunell looked to be dropping back, however once the other guys backed off for the corner Stunell kept into his boat and went into the turn hard, as he always does. The signature 'Evercraft spray' then covered the other two boats on his outside and their engines were left coughing and spluttering on the second straight, leaving Stunell the whole track to himself. Well done Jeff.

Stanley in final, BJ in a spin

19th September 2009 1:40pm AEST

They've made it- Agent Orange will start in pole 4 outside of Outlaw, Fury Marine and Rival. Blown Lite 'Bad Influence' will start from 5.

Brian Jeffrey was looking good in thrid place out of a field of 8 boats, however he spun on the second turn and was overtaken by the rest of the field.

No shortage of drama for Les Spears Memorial heat races

19th September 2009 1:00pm AEST

Heats for the Les Spears have produced some of the best races of the day so far and not without the fair share of dramas.

Dave Clarke looked to have the lead down the straight in his heat but unfortunately was unable to finish the race.

Further back in this field of boats was the only boat fitted with a reinforced cockpit- Typhoon driven by Nigel Agnew. Agnew appeared to be cornering blind at the first turn and went in way too fast. Despite the steering being on full lock he nearly wiped out Shane Quinn in BNR Engines, totally unaware that he was beside him. Quinn narrowly missed some trees on the river bank and did exceptionally well to avoid a collision. The boat however took on a huge amount of water from Agnew and the guys are working now to get it back on the water.

The third heat featured our hometown hero Trevor Stanley pitted against two of the best - Chris Palmer and Brian McCosker. Agent Orange got the hole shot ahead of these two but Stanley was unable to keep the power down long enough to maintain his lead.

"i got out in front of McCosker down the straight, but the boat just started to rock from side to side and I didn't feel comfortable keeping my foot into it" Stanley said after the race.

"I got second, but It must just be under powered at the moment or something."

Jeff Stunell is back in business in the 6 litre class and showing the rest of the field how it's done, not easily but comfortably taking the win ahead of a fairly tight pack fighting for second place. Amid the pack behind Stunell was of course BJ in Bondage from Berri.

Heats for Commodore Cup will start momentarily. Organisers appear to be sorting out a fuel shortage at the moment.

Stay tuned.

Ready to roar

19th September 2009

We are moments away from commencing racing and several boats have taken to the water to warm up & get some practice in, including Trevor Stanley in Agent Orange who is looking very fast. Some non-championship races will be conducted shortly, more details soon.

All in all the event is shaping up to be one of the best this year considering nearly 100 boats are in attendance and the weather is absolutely perfect.

2JZ showdown a no go, other teams all fired up

It's day 1 of the Windsor Spectacular and already the stunning entry list has taken to the water to put on a show.
